 54th Annual Prize Giving Function on 5.3.08

As many as 304 students were awarded prizes for excelling in the field of academics, sports and co-curricular activities. The celebrations started with the chanting of the shloka – Tamasoma Jyotirgamaya and the traditional lighting of the Lamp by the chief guest, Shri Pradip Mehra, IAS, Advisor to the Administrator, Chandigarh Administration. Mrs. Raji P. Srivastava, Director Higher Education also graced the occasion.

Biotechnology Department of College held an Inter college Biotech fest “Biosizzler” on 28th Feb in the college.

CHIMICA HELD ANNUAL PRIZE GIVING FUNCTION on 13.2.08

The Annual Prize giving function of Chimica, the Chemical Society of college was held by the chemistry Dept., today in the college seminar room.

GC-11 IT Fest 2008 Evokes Huge Response on 12-02-2008

The Department of Computer Science and Information Technology, Government College, Sector-11 organized a day long fiesta for the students. The program got off to a scintillating start with lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest, Dr. R.K. Singla, Department of Computer Science & Applications, PU, Chd. Interspersed with fun and awareness, a huge variety of programs were organized, including ‘On the Spot Website Development’, debate, collage making, IT Quiz, Debugging, IT Skit, Graphic Designing, Rangoli, Fusion Dance and Bhangra.Stating the aim of the multipurpose venture, the Head of the Department, Prof. B.R. Bansal said that he hoped to rope in as many talents as possible and the turnout of the students from more than 20 colleges has met his hope. Dr. A.L. Gauba, Principal of the college, lauded the enterprise of the IT wing.

FOREIGN STUDENTS FUNCTION on 15.2.08

Foreign students association  College celebrated its Annual Day today.Dr. A. L. Gauba, Principal of the college welcomed the chief guest Dr. Shelley Walia, Dean Foreign Students, Dean Faculty of Languages & International Relations, PU, Chandigarh.

Awareness Generation on World Wetlands Day on  02-02-2008

In order to generate awareness among the college students about the importance of keeping wetlands healthy, the department of Geography conducted various events today. A newsletter on the theme “Healthy Wetlands, Healthy People” was released by the Principal of the College. A Wall Magazine, prepared by the students and teachers of Geography, was showcased. A Poster Making Competition was also held on this theme.

Inter College Physics Quiz on 01-02-2008

The Department of Physics organized the Annual Inter College Physics Quiz in the College Auditorium at 11:00 am. Ten teams from different colleges of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh participated in the Quiz Contest.

Inter College History Quiz 

Department of History, organized an Inter college Quiz Contest today, on the theme ‘The Uprising of 1857’, on the occasion of the 150th celebration of the Revolt. Five teams from different colleges of the city participated in the contest.

PRATIBHA 2007 on 14-09-07:

The two day Talent Hunt Competition at college auditorium  kicked off at various venues with aplomb. The items scheduled on 14th Sept.,2007 were Elocution and Poetry Recitation, Mimicry, skit and Bhangra & Gidda and on 15th Sept.,2007 it will be quiz, Solo song, Folk song, Poster making.

INFOSYS CONDUCTS CAMPUS AMBASSADOR PROGRAMME on 11-09-07: 

This year a final year student, Ms. Anika Kayastha of B.Sc. Biotechnology (Hons.), was selected to represent as “Infosys BPO Campus Ambassador ".This national level endeavour by Infosys is aimed to bridge the divide between the student career aspirations and industry’s expectations from the newcomers. The Infosys BPO ambassadors undergo a one week long comprehensive training programme at the Infosys Leadership Institute, Mysore.

‘Chak De’ Spirit Marks Panel Discussion on 07-09-07:

The Department of Physical Education,  organized a panel discussion on ‘The Relevance of Four Year B.P.Ed. Course’ in the Seminar Room of the College. The panel included Dr. Ajmer Singh (Arjuna Awardee), Professor Dr. N.S. Maan, former Chairman, Department of Physical Education, P.U. Chandigarh, Assistant Professor, Dr. J.S. Gill, Head of the Department of Physical Education, PEC, Dr. G.S. Brar, Chairman, Department of Physical Education, P.U., Dr. Pahlad Aggarwal, Deputy Director, Colleges, Chandigarh Administration. The focus of the discussion was on the innovative aspects of the course.

TEACHERS’DAY on 05-09-07:

The Teachers’ Day celebrated by the Post Graduate Department of English,Commerce and Psycology .The function was attended by the college Principal, Dr. A.L. Gauba, the Vice-Principal, Sh. Harjinder Singh, ex-principal of Govt. College, Sec-19, Mr. Bhupinder Singh, college faculty members and students.

BRAILLE CORNER (SPECIAL FEATURE OF GC-11 LIBRARY) on 30-08-07:

College library holds a total collection of about 1 lakh books and on an average 300 to 400 students make use of its resources daily. The special feature of the library is its Braille corner for the special students. Two Perkins braillers and one computer with Braille softwar ( JAWS) has been put on service. This facility is extended to the special students of other colleges also. This year a total of 8 special students are availing of this facility. With this facility, it has become easier for these students to prepare their exam. notes and they do not have to depend on readers for their exam. preparation now. This facility has not only helped them academically but also helped in keeping them update by searching the net.                                                          

CELEBRATES RENEWABLE ENERGY DAY (SADBHAWNA DIWAS) on 20-08-07:

Organized a paper reading contest to mark the celebration of Akshay Urja Divas, today. The staff and students of the college also took part in pledge ceremony to commemorate Sadbhavna Divas. Speaking on the occasion, the college Principal, Dr. A.N.Garg stressed on the need to conserve depleting energy resources so that these can be preserved for future generations. The progress of the country is linked with the optimum utilization of the resources of energy.

LECTURES ON THE ROLE OF MEDIA IN SOCIETY on 18-8-07:

The Post Graduate Department of English  organised lectures on the Role of Media in Society today. The lectures were delivered by veteran journalist Dr. D S Gupt, former Principal Govt College of Commerce and Business Administration Sec – 19 Mr Bhupinder Singh and Star News reporter Mr Arvind Chhabra Sharing his views on the crucial role of media in educating and informing society Dr D S Gupt advocated the positive role that the media is playing in shaping and structuring the Society. More than 80 students attended the lectures and participated enthusiastically in the interactive session that followed the lectures. Many members of the faculty also attended the lectures.

CELEBRATES INDEPENDENCE DAY on 15-8-07:

The Principal, staff and students  celebrated Independence Day with great zeal and fervour. The celebrations commenced with hoisting of the National Flag by college Principal Dr. A.N Garg. Speaking on the occasion, Dr A.N Garg highlighted the need to minimize social evils prevalent in the society such as illiteracy, ignorance, dowry, corruption, child abuse, female foeticide and gender discrimination. He exhorted the students to contribute their best for the overall development of the country and channelise their energies and potential in the best possible manner.

TREE PLANTATION DRIVE  on 13-08-07:

NSS  and  NCC  units  along  with  other  students of   College organized a  tree  plantation  drive,  which  was  inaugurated  by     Sh. N. P. S. Aulakh, IPS, Director General of Police, Punjab. About 100 saplings were planted on the college ground adjoining the canteen area of the college. On this occasion, an illuminating lecture was also delivered by Dr. A.D. Ahluwalia, FGS, Prof. of Geology, Panjab University, Chandigarh, who acquainted the students about the awareness of environment program in an interesting and interactive manner with the help of audio visual aids. Other events like Eco-Friendly Rangoli and Eco-Poster Making competitions were also organized to mark the occasion. The results for Eco-Friendly Rangoli are: 1. Mamta and Suruchi 2. Silk y and Sneha. 3. Ritu and Priyanka, consolation prize Swati and Gagandeep.

The results of Eco-Poster Making competition are: 1. Neha Thakur (BBA-I). 2. Mohit Kaushal (B. Com I). 3. Neeraj Rathi (B. Sc. I).

Lecture on Road Safety on 07-08-07:

A talk on Traffic Awarness was organized at college Auditorium. More than 200 Students from NCC and NSS units of the college participated in the interactive and informative discussion on the topic of road safety.  S.S.P. Traffic, Chandigarh Police    Sh. A.S.Ahlawat, delivered the key note address. A film by Jaspal Bhatti on traffic was also shown on the occasion. Head Constable with Chandigarh Traffic Police Mr. Des Raj talked to students about traffic rules and their violation in his own peculiar style.
